FRIDAY (6 AUG 2010)
...................................
  SATURDAY (7 AUG 2010)
  SUNDAY (8 AUG 2010)

¡¡¡ First Screening at 20.00 !!!

LATEST UPDATE: We just finished building the screen. The location is fantastic as it is, but we're working on making it even better - hammocks between the coco trees and such are work in progress... Allow us to point out a couple of points:

- SFF is an open-air fest, so God willing the weather won't interfere with the screenings
- YES! There will be homemade local food, drinks, and free coffee available, so no need to bring anything really; maybe a cushion or a reed mat to sit/lie on the ground if you are inclined so...

  DIRT! The Movie
(USA, 2009, 86 mins.)

DIRT! The Movie — directed and produced by Bill Benenson and Gene Rosow — takes you inside the wonders of the soil. It tells the story of Earth's most valuable and underappreciated source of fertility, from its miraculous beginning to its crippling degradation.

The opening scenes of the film dive into the wonderment of the soil. Made from the same elements as the stars, plants and animals, and us, "dirt is very much alive." Though, in modern industrial pursuits and clamor for both profit and natural resources, our human connection to and respect for soil has been disrupted. "Drought, climate change, even war are all directly related to the way we are treating dirt."

DIRT! The Movie — narrated by Jaime Lee Curtis — brings to life the environmental, economic, social and political impact that the soil has. It shares the stories of experts from all over the world who study and are able to harness the beauty and power of a respectful and mutually beneficial relationship with soil. Beyond its unquestionable informative value, this film is a call to action.

What we've destroyed, we can heal.

  No Impact Man
(USA, 2009, 92 mins.)

A guilty New York Liberal decides to practice what he preaches for one year. He turns off the electricity, stops making garbage, gives up TV, taxis & take out, and becomes a walking, bicycling, composting, tree hugging, polar bear saving, local food-eating citizen, all while taking his baby daughter and caffeine loving retail-obsessed television-addicted wife along with him.

No Impact Man presents an intimate emotional portrait of a couple struggling through a severe and protracted change in their lifestyle. How do they cope with the constant stress and intermittent crises of this new way of living? Or, perhaps,
when life is pared down, do some things become unexpectedly better and even
easier?

Mondovino
(France/USA, 2004, 136 mins.)

Across three continents, Mondovino weaves together the family succession sagas of billionaire Napa Valley power brokers, the rivalry of two aristocratic Florentine dynasties and the fight of three generations of a Burgundian family to preserve their few acres of land. But are all these struggles secondary to the adventures of a gleefully mischievous pirate from Bordeaux as he spreads the gospel of modernity from Italy to New York to Argentina? Wine has been a symbol of Western civilization for thousands of years. Never has the fight for its soul been as desperate. From the director of Sunday and Signs and Wonders.

Jamie's Great Italian Escape
(UK/Italy, 2005, 150 mins.)

Jamie Oliver heads to Italy in his camper van to regain his passion for cooking. Jamie maps out a journey to rediscover what inspired his love of food in the first place. He’s hoping that going back to basics, living off the land, meeting the locals and cooking up some traditional Italian food in his own style will be just what he needs. What will the Italians make of him, and can he and his food cut the "mostardo" in the Italian’s backyard?

From Sicily to Puglia to the mountain region of Le Marche, to the beautiful Amalfi Coast and lots of places in between, he packed in as much as he could and met so many friendly people - from lovely families who shared their recipes, to the market traders who gave him tips on how to cook their produce. Jamie’s journey takes him off the beaten track to discover people who make up the "real" Italy.

Babettes Gæstebud (Babette's Feast)
(Denmark, 1987, 102 mins.)

Some movies can only be described as delicious. In Babette's Feast, a woman flees the French civil war and lands in a small seacoast village in Denmark, where she comes to work for two spinsters, devout daughters of a puritan minister. After many years, Babette unexpectedly wins a lottery, and decides to create a real French dinner — which leads the sisters to fear for their souls. Joining them for the meal will be a Danish general who, as a young soldier, courted one of the sisters, but she turned him away because of her religion. The village elders all resolve not to enjoy the meal, but can their moral fiber resist the sensual pleasure of Babette's cooking?

Babette's Feast
deservedly won the 1987 Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film. This lovely movie is impeccably simple, yet its slender narrative contains a wealth of humor, melancholy, and hope.

Big Night
(USA, 1996, 107 mins.)

Big Night is an intimate look at the immigrant struggle to attain the American Dream, set in New Jersey in the 1950s.

The brothers in Big Night — chef Primo (Tony Shalhoub) and businessman Secondo (Tucci) — have come to New Jersey to open a bistro named The Paradise that serves the finest in traditional, authentic Italian cuisine. Their every move is foiled by rival restaurant Pascal's, which serves mile-high servings of spaghetti and meatballs and flasks of bad Chianti at exorbitant prices. Primo is disgusted by the fact that Americans want cheap pasta instead of risotto, so Secondo hatches a plan to boost business: rumor has it bandleader Louis Prima is travelling through and will dine at The Paradise that very night. Secondo gambles to bring the finest dinner ever cooke — at the risk of losing his shirt and being reduced to exile to the old country with his tail between his legs.
